The Rising of the Shield Hero Review: Betrayal, a Shield, and a Bond Worth the Baggage
A gripping betrayal-and-redemption isekai carried by Naofumi and Raphtalia's bond and Kevin Penkin's soaring score, held back by a genuinely contentious slave premise and sequels that lose the thread.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Review: A Cozy Power Fantasy Built Around Friendship and Nation Building
This easygoing wish-fulfillment isekai finds its appeal in watching an absurdly powerful slime create a monster nation. It is charming and comforting, though genuine tension is rare.
Sword Art Online Review: The Death-Game Hit That Reshaped Isekai and Divided Fans
A-1 Pictures' VRMMO juggernaut starts with one of anime's most gripping arcs, then burns through much of that goodwill in a weaker and deeply uncomfortable second half. Its influence on an entire genre remains impossible to miss.
Overlord Review: An Isekai That Makes the Villain Easy to Root For
Overlord builds a gripping isekai around a villainous lead and the bizarre residents of Nazarick. Dated CGI battles and a slow middle keep it from reaching the top tier.
Dr. Stone Review: Anime's Most Exhilarating Chemistry Lesson
TMS adapts Riichiro Inagaki and Boichi's manga into a rousing, genuinely educational shonen whose hero relies on applied chemistry. Its science sometimes bends under the simplifications the genre demands, but the excitement holds.
Spy x Family Review: The Cold War's Coziest Family
A near-perfect crowd-pleaser whose spy-assassin-telepath household is funnier and more moving than its premise has any right to be, even as its central mission barely inches forward.
Tsuki ga Kirei Review: Anime's Most Honest Story of First Love
Tsuki ga Kirei trades sweeping romantic gestures for read receipts and nervous pauses. It lets a middle school crush be as awkward as the real thing, and even its stiff 3DCG crowd scenes cannot spoil how affecting it is.
Hinamatsuri Review: The Funniest Anime You Probably Skipped
A deadpan yakuza-and-psychic-girl comedy that smuggles one of anime's most quietly moving redemption arcs in under its absurdist gags, undercut only by an anime-original ending that shortchanges its best character.
Guilty Crown Review: A Gorgeous, Glorious Mess
A visually spectacular, Sawano-scored sci-fi drama whose incoherent plot and divisive hero keep a killer premise from ever cohering.
