About

Edward and Alphonse Elric learn alchemy's cruelest law the hard way: nothing can be gained without surrendering something of equal value. Chasing that one forbidden act, human transmutation, the young brothers pay a horrifying toll. Edward forfeits his left leg, Alphonse his entire body, and only by giving up his own right arm does Edward manage to bind his brother's soul into a hollow suit of armor. Determined to undo the damage, Edward fits himself with metal 'automail' limbs and earns his state-alchemist title, the Fullmetal Alchemist, as the pair set out after the Philosopher's Stone, a fabled relic rumored to sidestep the very law that broke them. Their hunt drags them past military politics and a killer on the loose into a sprawling conspiracy that reaches the roots of their own nation, forcing them to weigh whether the road back to their bodies might cost them the very humanity they're fighting to reclaim.

The Brotherhood specials and the side story The Sacred Star of Milos are optional extras to save for after the credits, not stops you need along the way.
