About
Ten-year-old Chihiro is in a foul mood — her family is in the middle of moving, and she's being dragged away from everything familiar. Then her father takes a wrong turn down a dirt road, and a walk through an odd little tunnel deposits the family in what looks like an abandoned roadside amusement park. It only looks abandoned. When night falls, the place comes alive as a crossroads for spirits and gods, centered on a towering bathhouse where they come to be pampered — and after her parents help themselves to food clearly meant for someone else, they pay a heavy price, and Chihiro is suddenly alone in a world with no place for humans. To set things right she has to earn her keep among the bathhouse staff, stay out of the proprietor's bad graces, and find her nerve with help from a quiet boy called Haku and a few unexpected allies. It's Miyazaki at his most assured: lush, strange, and quietly serious about the inner life of a frightened kid.
