Mary and the Witch's Flower
Mary and the Witch's Flower is a 102-minute fantasy adventure from Studio Ponoc, released in 2017. Netflix carries the movie for legal streaming; check its catalogue in your region before settling in. The appeal is the gap between having magical power and knowing what to do with it. A flight into an extraordinary school puts an ordinary girl in a position she cannot maintain, giving the spectacle a source of tension beyond the next impressive spell. It suits an evening when you want an adventure built around magic, with a movie's running time instead of a television season to work through.
About
A flower found in the woods gives Mary a brief taste of magic. With an old broom suddenly capable of flight, she reaches a school above the clouds, where her borrowed abilities earn her attention she never expected. The welcome depends on a misunderstanding: the school believes that the power belongs to her. As Mary learns more about the people who have taken an interest in her, keeping up that impression becomes dangerous. The flower's effects will wear off, leaving her to face the trouble she has entered without that advantage.
