Chainsaw Man

8.3TV Β· 12 eps Β· 2022

You can watch Chainsaw Man legally on Crunchyroll, Disney Plus, Hulu, or Netflix. Pick the service you already use and prepare for a savage urban-fantasy story that treats monster fights as only half the attraction. Denji is an unusually blunt anti-hero, driven by basic wants rather than noble speeches, and that simplicity gives the surrounding horror a sharp comic edge. The action lands with ugly physical force, while the quieter material lets poverty and the desire for an ordinary life shape his choices. Manipulation applies pressure from another direction. Power and Aki Hayakawa give him vivid personalities to collide with, while Makima brings a very different tension. Those frictions are as compelling as the devils. Fans who like body horror with genuine character ache should put this high on the queue. Its violence is excessive by design, but the show has more on its mind than splatter. It is interested in how someone starved of affection can mistake control for care, and how fragile found-family bonds can become when danger is routine.

About

Denji is a teenage outcast saddled with a financial burden inherited from his father. His closest companion is Pochita, a devil associated with chainsaws, and the pair survive by doing grim work involving defeated devils. Denji's ambitions are painfully modest because survival has never left him room to imagine much more. A lethal betrayal destroys that desperate routine, making his connection with Pochita the only lifeline left. An agreement between them restores Denji's life and gives him a devil's heart, allowing him to become Chainsaw Man. That second chance draws him toward special squads confronting monsters, alongside people whose motives are difficult to read. The setup is gleefully grotesque, yet Denji's emotional inexperience gives it an unexpectedly sad center. He can tear through supernatural threats, but understanding desire and trust is another problem entirely. This is a spoiler-light story best entered knowing only that its gore and black comedy are tightly tangled with coming-of-age tension.

Seasons & Watch Order

Chainsaw Man is the first TV season, so there is no earlier season to catch up on before starting here. Begin with this entry and follow Denji's story in order. The related Chainsaw Man Movie: Reze-hen is identified as a sequel, which makes it material for after this season rather than a substitute introduction. Chainsaw Biyori is listed as a side story, so it is not required groundwork for understanding the main opening arc. This season establishes Denji and Pochita before widening its focus to the central cast and the rules of its devil-filled urban setting. Watching from the beginning matters less for complicated lore than for the slow formation of loyalties and expectations. Character relationships can look simple at first and grow more unsettling as their power dynamics become clearer. Starting here preserves that progression and keeps later material from getting ahead of the emotional setup.
