About
Balsa is a bodyguard-for-hire whose spear has ended too many lives, so she's bound herself to an oath: save eight lives to balance the deaths she carries. Her final debt arrives in the form of Chagum, a young prince marked for death by his own father's court — because the boy harbors a mysterious spirit tied to the fate of the realm's water and harvests. On the run together, warrior and prince have to untangle what the spirit actually is, separating imperial myth from older truth, while assassins close in. It's a chase story wrapped around something rarer: a meditation on duty, parenthood, and the histories empires write over.
