In the fog-wrapped coastal town of Kurozu-cho, something has gone wrong with reality's geometry. Kirie Goshima's boyfriend Shuichi sees it first: the spiral — in shells, in whirlpools, in the smoke over the crematorium — repeating everywhere, pulling at everything. His father's fascination curdles into obsession; obsession spreads through the town like weather. Bodies contort, minds coil inward, and every attempt to leave bends back toward the center.
