Saichi Sugimoto, a hardened veteran of the Russo-Japanese War, is panning for gold when he stumbles onto a legend: a fortune in stolen Ainu gold, its map tattooed across the bodies of escaped convicts. Teaming up with Asirpa, a sharp young Ainu hunter, he sets out to track down the tattooed men before ruthless soldiers and a rogue immortal do. The hunt sends them across a snowbound wilderness and into a rogues' gallery of unforgettable eccentrics. It swings from tense survival and grisly violence to loving depictions of Ainu food and custom to sheer comedic madness, often within the same episode.
