About
After surviving the Russo-Japanese War, Saichi Sugimoto searches for gold and hears a story about a stolen Ainu fortune. The route to it is hidden in tattoos carried by escaped convicts, turning the treasure hunt into a dangerous search for people rather than places. He joins Asirpa, a skilled young Ainu hunter whose knowledge of Hokkaido helps them endure the cold and read the country around them. Soldiers and other ruthless seekers pursue the same prize, and many of the men tied to the tattoo map are dangerous eccentrics. The series keeps the central mystery moving while making room for hunting, cooking and Ainu customs. Its comedy can arrive immediately after a brutal encounter, giving the adventure a deliberately unpredictable rhythm without losing sight of the gold.
