Akira

7.9MOVIE · 1 eps · 1988

Akira fits its entire story into one intense 125-minute film, so there is no season commitment or viewing homework. Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video carry it, while Tubi offers the free option with ads. The 1988 movie is still an arresting watch because its city feels restless even before psychic power begins tearing through the fragile order. The action can be brutal, and the horror comes as much from a human body changing beyond recognition as from open conflict. Viewers who enjoy psychological science fiction, damaged friendships, and spectacle with an ugly edge should make time for it. Anyone seeking a gentle adventure should expect something harsher and more feverish.

About

A teenage biker lives in a rebuilt city where public unrest and government secrecy simmer beneath everyday life. After a collision draws his closest friend into a hidden program, that friend develops supernatural abilities no one can safely contain. Old resentment grows alongside those powers, straining the bond between them as military control gives way to panic. The film follows their collision through action, horror, and psychological pressure, while keeping its focus on what sudden power does to someone who has always felt diminished.
