About
Told in three connected chapters, the film follows Takaki and Akari, childhood sweethearts pulled apart first by distance and then by the slow gravity of growing up. A snowbound train journey, a rocket launch on a southern island, a chance near-crossing years later in Tokyo: Shinkai maps the widening gap between two people who never quite stop reaching for each other. It's less a plot than a mood, capturing the tender, unbearable pace at which first love fades.
