Children Who Chase Lost Voices

7.1MOVIE Β· 1 eps Β· 2011

This 2011 standalone movie sends its grieving characters into Agartha, a hidden world where the hope of reversing death carries a terrible cost. Netflix is the service carrying Children Who Chase Lost Voices. Set aside 116 minutes for a complete fantasy adventure rather than an episodic series. Its patient pace, mythic setting and focus on accepting loss suit viewers who want an emotional journey with room to breathe. The film is especially appealing if you enjoy the ache of an impossible reunion but want it framed as a large scale quest rather than a contemporary romance.

About

Asuna lives independently and spends quiet afternoons listening to a crystal radio on a hill. When it picks up a beautiful song that should not exist, her curiosity draws her toward a boy connected to Agartha, a secret world beneath the earth. A sudden loss soon gives the discovery painful weight. She enters Agartha alongside a teacher who believes its legends may offer a way to recover someone who has died. Their passage through this unfamiliar place confronts them with the consequences of refusing to let the dead go. The story keeps its central mystery intact while using the journey to ask what grief can demand from the living.
