Miyo is the loudest girl in class, all aggressive affection and theatrical confidence — a performance covering a fractured home life and a loneliness she refuses to name. Her secret is stranger than a crush: a mask-seller's magic lets her become a small white cat, and as 'Taro' she gets the tenderness from her crush Hinode that Miyo-the-girl never receives. The cat hours start feeling easier than the human ones, which is exactly the trap. When the mask-seller offers to make the transformation permanent, the film becomes a race to reclaim a self she's been quietly abandoning. Charming on the surface, surprisingly sharp underneath.
